Building the Foundation: SWICKtech’s Strategic Transition to Hudu

    Meet SWICKtech

SWICKtech is an MSP with a focus on secure, scalable IT operations. As their documentation needs expanded, they began exploring alternatives to their existing tools - OneNote and a separate password manager. Hudu is becoming a key part of their strategy to standardize and eventually centralize everything in one place. Even if you've been using Hudu for awhile, they are a great example of how there is always an opportunity to unlock more value.

Ellie Szablewski, Lead Security & Operations Engineer, shares how they’re approaching the transition and what they’ve learned along the way.

Why did you start exploring a new documentation platform?

    Facing limitations with OneNote
    • We've encountered limitations in terms of scalability and organization -particularly with larger documentation sets.
    Looking to consolidate tools
    • This, along with the desire to consolidate both documentation and password management into a single platform, led us to explore Hudu as a potential long-term solution.

What was your documentation setup before Hudu?

    Multiple tools
    • We are currently still using OneNote for documentation purposes. In addition to OneNote, we were also using a separate password manager.
    Starting the migration process
    • As part of our transition to Hudu, we began by migrating password data first, ensuring a structured and secure approach to that process.

How is your team approaching the transition to Hudu?

    Strategic and methodical rollout
    • We’ve been thoughtfully building out our asset layout templates within Hudu to align with our operational workflows and documentation standards. We want to avoid simply dumping data from one system to another.
     Focused on quality and consistency
    • Our goal is to ensure that everything we migrate is meaningful, organized, and conforms to a consistent format within Hudu. We’re approaching this transition strategically, and while it’s still ongoing, we’re making steady progress toward full adoption.

Which Hudu features are you using right now?

We primarily uses Hudu for secure password storage, both for client credentials and internal personal vaults. We have also built centralized knowledge bases focused on documenting our core security services. We're enthusiastic about expanding our use of asset layout templates to standardize and organize our information more effectively.

    Password management
    • Hudu’s Password Management provides SWICKTech a secure vault to store and manage client passwords as well as personal credentials. This centralized system ensures sensitive data is protected and accessible only to authorized users.
    Knowledge base
    • SWICKTech leverages Hudu’s Knowledge Base to create centralized, organized documentation, particularly for their security suite. This resource helps maintain consistency and makes critical information easily available to the team.

    Asset layouts
    • Although still early in adoption, SWICKTech values Hudu’s Asset Layout templates for their ability to standardize documentation across clients. These customizable layouts will help them structure asset information uniformly as they grow their documentation practices.

What are you hoping Hudu will help you improve long term?

    Standardization and uniformity
    • Our goal is to use it to help standardize our documentation and ensure everything is consistent and uniform across the board.
    Centralized, interconnected data
    • One of the big benefits we’re looking forward to is having everything interconnected - so we’re not duplicating the same info across multiple places. That kind of centralized structure will be a huge improvement for our workflow.

What stands out most about your experience with Hudu so far?
